Berry, walnut & yoghurt snack pot

Plain Greek-style yoghurt topped with berries, walnuts, chia and cinnamon. It is a simple optional snack that fits the site's wider evidence-led meal-planning approach — not a treatment for fatty liver.

Why this combination

An ordinary snack built from familiar foods

Current MASLD guidance focuses on the overall dietary pattern rather than single “liver foods”. Mediterranean-style patterns commonly include fruit, nuts and seeds, while Mayo Clinic's current MASLD example day includes berries with Greek yoghurt and also uses nuts and vegetables as snack ideas.

This pot combines plain yoghurt with whole fruit, walnuts and chia rather than relying on a heavily sweetened dessert-style yoghurt. That makes it one practical option when a snack is useful, but snacking itself is optional and this combination does not cure, reverse or directly treat MASLD.

Choose the version that fits your needs. If you have a milk allergy, another food allergy, diabetes treatment, kidney disease, advanced liver disease, swallowing problems or personalised nutrition advice, use that guidance rather than treating this recipe as a prescription.

The complete recipe

Berry, walnut & yoghurt snack pot

Five minutes, no cooking and only six ingredients. Make two small pots at once or halve the quantities for one.

Ingredients

  • 250 g plain Greek-style yoghurt
  • 120 g mixed berries, fresh or safely thawed from frozen
  • 20 g walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Optional finely grated zest of 1/4 unwaxed lemon

Method

  1. 1

Divide the plain Greek-style yoghurt between two small bowls or lidded pots.

  2. 2

Spoon the berries over the yoghurt. If using frozen berries, thaw them according to the pack instructions first and drain excess liquid if needed.

  3. 3

Scatter over the chopped walnuts and chia seeds, then dust lightly with cinnamon.

  4. 4

Finish with a little lemon zest if using. Eat straight away, or cover and keep chilled until needed, following the yoghurt and berry pack storage instructions.

Plain yoghurt is the useful starting point here. Flavoured yoghurt products vary widely in added sugars and ingredients. If you prefer a dairy-free version, choose an unsweetened alternative that fits your own dietary needs and check the label rather than assuming every plant-based pot is nutritionally identical.

Three easy variations

Keep the pot simple; change the topping

The basic pattern is plain yoghurt plus fruit, with nuts or seeds when they suit you. These variations change flavour without turning the recipe into a dessert-style product.

01

Apple & cinnamon

Use finely chopped apple, walnuts and cinnamon, leaving out the lemon zest.

02

Pear & pumpkin seed

Swap the berries for chopped pear and use pumpkin seeds instead of walnuts.

03

Raspberry & lemon

Use raspberries, chia and a little extra lemon zest for a sharper version.

Use it in a real week

Keep snacks optional and plan them deliberately

Add this pot only when a snack is useful for your day. The Meal Planner can include or remove snacks, while Recipe Finder can surface other ideas by time and eating pattern.
