Wholegrain oatcakes with cottage cheese, tomato & chives

Crisp wholegrain oatcakes topped with creamy cottage cheese, juicy cherry tomatoes, fresh chives and a little lemon. It is a quick savoury snack or small-meal component that fits the site's wider evidence-led eating pattern — not a treatment for fatty liver.

Why this combination

A familiar snack format, not a special “liver food”

Current MASLD guidance focuses on the overall dietary pattern rather than individual foods acting as treatments. Mediterranean-style eating patterns emphasise minimally processed foods, vegetables, wholegrains and a generally higher-quality diet. This snack uses those ideas in an ordinary UK format: wholegrain oatcakes, tomatoes and a simple dairy topping.

The combination is not invented for SEO. Safefood publishes tomato and cottage cheese on oatcakes as a standalone snack recipe, while NHS healthier-snack guidance separately includes cheesy oatcakes with tomatoes. Our quantities and method are original to Fatty Liver Meal Planner.

Keep snacks optional. You do not need this — or any snack — simply because you have MASLD. If your clinician or dietitian has given you personalised advice for energy, sodium, dairy, diabetes, kidney disease, allergies or another condition, that advice takes priority.

The complete recipe

Wholegrain oatcakes with cottage cheese, tomato & chives

Mix the cottage cheese with lemon and chives, then assemble immediately before eating so the oatcakes stay crisp.

Ingredients

  • 6 wholegrain oatcakes
  • 180 g cottage cheese
  • 8 cherry tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • To taste freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional cucumber ribbons or sliced radishes, to serve

Method

  1. 1

Put the cottage cheese in a small bowl. Stir through the chives, lemon juice and black pepper.

  2. 2

Quarter the cherry tomatoes. If using cucumber or radishes, prepare them now and keep them separate until serving.

  3. 3

Divide the cottage cheese mixture across the wholegrain oatcakes. Spoon the tomatoes over the top and drizzle very lightly with the olive oil.

  4. 4

Finish with extra chives or black pepper if you like, and serve straight away so the oatcakes stay crisp.

Check the products you actually buy. Oatcakes and cottage cheese can vary considerably in salt, fat, size and ingredients. If any of those matter for your individual medical advice, compare labels rather than relying on a generic nutrition estimate from a recipe website.

Three practical versions

Keep the idea useful without turning it into three separate SEO pages

The same basic snack can work at home, in a lunchbox or as part of a light meal. There is no need to manufacture a new URL for every topping change.

01

At-home snack

Assemble just before eating and add the tomato at the last moment for the crispest oatcakes.

02

Packed version

Carry the oatcakes separately from the cottage-cheese mixture and tomatoes, then assemble when you are ready to eat.

03

Light lunch extra

Pair a smaller portion with vegetable soup or a salad if you need something more substantial than a standalone snack.

Use it in a real week

Turn one quick savoury snack into a practical choice, not a rule

Use the Recipe Finder when you want another vegetarian snack, or add oatcakes, cottage cheese and tomatoes to the Shopping List Builder. The wider week matters more than this one combination.
